Alexandra Gasteiger, also known as Sqrl, came from a long line of carpenters and woodworkers. An avid skater, she saw potential in the battered and broken skateboard decks people would throw in the trash. Drawing on her training as a jewellery maker, she started fashioning them into rings, pendants, and other pieces of wearable art. I love how the character and colour of the plywood comes through in her work, and the video is a great glimpse into how it all comes together.
